The future ESVA Rail Trail will be a 49-mile walking and biking trail along the historic Eastern Shore railroad corridor. The Trail will connect towns, encourage outdoor recreation and tourism, contribute to economic growth and support a healthier and more prosperous community. It will also connect with the already established 5-mile Southern Tip Bike & Hike Trail that begins at the Eastern Shore National Wildlife Refuge. Because CBES has the oldest, most popular Bike Tour in the region [Between the Waters Bike Tour began in 1993] we recognize the benefits to the Shore from this green infrastructure. CBES supports the trail development in any way we can. Stay updated with CBES ShoreLine Newsletter. follow on Facebook (2) Eastern Shore Rail Trail Foundation | Facebook and esrailtrail.org |
CBES "MEET THE CANDIDATES" 3 FORUMS
for Nov 7 Contested Races are CANCELLED. It is with sadness that CBES is announcing the cancellation of our upcoming three Candidate Forums. For over 20 years, CBES has tried hard to make these Forums a service for our community, by providing an unbiased and civil setting that allows each candidate to present his/her position. There are very few opportunities in our local and state elections where you can listen to both candidates answer questions that are focused on Eastern Shore issues. With this year’s Forums, we have partnered with several organizations, including the local sorority community. CBES felt it was important to work with the sororities because they provided a broader reach into the African American community, and they represent many of the African American women leaders of the Eastern Shore. Their role in our forum was limited to helping to publicize the event, and a few members would have been helping us collect questions from the audience. A total of 11 candidates (out of 22 candidates for contested seats), for state legislator, supervisor, clerk of court, and school board, declined to participate, many because any involvement of the sororities was unacceptable due to their perceived bias from the sororities, and by extension CBES. Given that in all but one of the races we would no longer have both candidates participating, we have decided we could no longer hold the 3 Candidate Forums. CBES would like to apologize to the candidates who still wanted to participate and to the voters who use our forums to help inform their decisions. Unfortunately, the candidates who pulled out of the Forums have made it impossible to provide this important service to the community. CBES strives to build partnerships. Outreach/inclusion is essential to a healthy, successful Eastern Shore. And these forums have always been structured to insure a non-partisanship/unbiased informational purpose. It should be a given that candidates for public office hear from all their citizens regardless of party, race, religion... CBES guide to WHAT & WHERE to recycle up and down the Shore. Although recycling programs have been around for years, nationally only about one third of all recyclable waste is recycled. Items such as aluminum cans, newspaper, plastic bags and plastic bottles, and glass are all highly recyclable, and keeping them out of our fields and waterways prevents significant damage to our Shore’s fragile environment.
